PALESTINE RALLY | Washington Square Park

Accompanied by J., I attended a Palestine rally that started in Union Square and ended at Washington Square Park. The crowd was estimated at roughly a thousand; mostly young people of different backgrounds and ethnicities. The march from Union Square was closely monitored by the NYPD, that directed the marchers to walk on the sidewalks, but not on the avenues. I asked a few people if they knew where the march would end, but no one knew...so the leaders of the march who probably improvised as they walked along.

The rally and the march was in support of the health care workers of Gaza, so a number of medical organizations were represented.

A Moroccan woman exchanged a few words with us, then gifted J. a small keffeyieh, and tied it for him in the traditional way. In Washington Square, a few speakers led the political chants, which were followed with dances; perhaps dabkas?

A drummer kept the beat during the march.
The front line of the march included a Haredi Rabbi.
