"A La Sauvette" Can Lead To Other Opportunities

"A la sauvette" is French for "on the sly"...an expression made famous in the photographic world by Henri Cartier-Bresson to describe his style of image-making...eventually translated as "the decisive moment" for the title of his book, seemingly to soothe public sensibilities. 

Walking around the fountain in Washington Square Park, I approached a small crowd watching a few youngsters dancing freestyle. I noticed her....she was talking to some in the group but did not take part of the impromptu dancing. I wanted to ask her to pose for me for a few minutes, but thought against it...so I did what HCB would've done and photographed her "a la sauvette".

And then Instagram connected us for a project. (to be continued...)
