Just Because....


I unearthed this photograph made 10 years ago at one of the oldest and most revered Sufi sites in Kashmir; the Khanqah of Shah Hamdan. It was built on the banks of the Jehlum river in Srinagar’s old city by Mir Mohammad Hamdani, the son of Shah Hamdan, who came to Kashmir in 13th century.

It's one of my favorite photograph of Srinagar, and is of a mother giving her baby a drink of water. I could not access that area as it's reserved for women, but I managed to get the photograph by raising my arms over the wooden screen called jalis.

I chose to post it here, as the color of her dress, of her child and of her companion's scarf and dress are the colors of the Palestinian flag...purely coincidental as I rummaged through my Srinagar images.
